Indian Designer Kresha Bajaj’s Global Debut in Dubai

Indian designer Kresha Bajaj has made a stunning international debut at Dubai Fashion Week with her collection, “The Archive of Hidden Things.” The show, which featured dramatic, oversized hats and flowing fabrics, was a significant moment for the Mumbai-based designer known for her narrative-driven and “slow fashion” approach. Bajaj described her first international showcase as a business decision and an “instinctive leap,” choosing Dubai because it “feels almost like home.”

The Collection: A Story in Three Chapters

Bajaj’s collection was a narrative unfolding in three distinct chapters:

  • Revelation: Characterized by soft silhouettes, sheer fabrics, and delicate pearl details.
  • Obsession: Introduced tension and structure through corsetry, exaggerated shoulders, and moodier tones.
  • Liberation: A celebration of confidence with high slits, open backs, and flowing fabrics.

The designer explained that the “hidden thing” in the collection was the expression and personal stories woven into each piece. Her philosophy centers on creating handcrafted, heirloom-quality garments that can be passed down through generations.

The Challenges and Future of Craft

Bajaj acknowledged the difficulty of preserving traditional craftsmanship, as younger generations are often not continuing the trade. However, she hopes that showcasing these crafts on a global stage will create more demand and help keep the artistry alive. Looking ahead, Bajaj is focused on blending couture with ready-to-wear and plans to open a new flagship store in Delhi, with whispers of more international showcases on the horizon.
